Juror’s Statement - Dr. Christopher C. Oliver

Bev Perdue Jennings Assistant Curator of American Art
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

It is a pleasure and an honor to judge the 57th Bath County Art Show. The high quality of the art assembled in this exhibition is a testament to the energy and extraordinary talent of the artists who have brought their work to this community to celebrate the creative act of making art.

As we enjoy this year’s Art Show, we recognize not only the award winners, but we celebrate each of the artists who have shared their work with this community. It is apparent to me that this is a special gathering of passionate and committed artists whose creations enrich and benefit all who have the opportunity to view it. I truly believe that the experience of an art show such as this is more gratifying than the sum of its individual works of art. It is important to see all of these works together in order to recognize shared passions, insights, and inquiries.

I am so grateful to have played a small part in this year’s show, and I applaud all of the members of the Bath County Arts Association who have worked so tirelessly to mount it. I want to particularly congratulate the Art Show’s co-chairs Leigh Johnson and Norvell Whitaker for staging this wonderful and important event.

Congratulations to all of the artists! I look forward to seeing more of this caliber of art in future!
