Student Scholarships

Who Is Eligible

Graduating high school seniors who either live in Bath County (whether in public, private or home-schools) or who do not live in Bath County but will graduate from Bath County High School, and who will enter a college or technical school following graduation and have demonstrated accomplishment in any art form (performing, visual, writing, music, etc).

Selection

Our scholarships are primarily merit-based, and we consider grades, test scores, leadership, character, and community service when making our decision. We give preference to students with a stated intention to continue study in the arts, as defined above, but it is not mandatory.

To apply, students must submit a complete scholarship packet to the Guidance department at Bath County High School (if a student there) or via email to the Scholarship Chair of the Arts Association (if privately or home-schooled): scholarships@bathcountyarts.org.

This packet requires three letters of recommendation from instructors, mentors, or advisors, and documentation of the applicant’s art participation. Fine arts applicants must submit a digital file of work completed within the previous 12 months. The work should demonstrate the best of the student’s work in one or more art forms.

The application deadline is March 15.

Amount

Each BCAA scholarship offers up to $1,500 annually to be applied to tuition, room, board, and/or books. Half the award is paid directly to the selected school for the first semester; we make the second semester payment when the scholarship committee receives first semester transcripts containing passing grades (minimum of C- in all courses).

The scholarship may be renewed for a second year at the discretion of the BCAA board of directors and the scholarship committee. When requesting continued funding, scholarship recipients must make that request via letter to the scholarship chair and provide transcripts demonstrating an average for the freshman year of B- with no grades lower than C-. Continued participation in the arts is also a major factor for consideration of further funding.
