The Bath County Arts Association is pleased to announce the September speaker for our Speaker Series. We are delighted to welcome Sarah Gibson Wiley to share her artistic journey and approach to design.
Sarah has been creating with her hands for as long as she can remember, with a deep passion for interior design and all things miniature. Over the years, she has woven these interests together by crafting miniature rooms. A self-taught artist, both in her former career in interior design and now in textile art, Sarah's creative process involves drawing scenes that must be sequenced for machine embroidery, even though her ideas flow in a different order. Once satisfied with a drawing, she begins stitching it on the embroidery machine, layer by layer. As a textile artist and interior designer, Sarah uses her artist’s eye, fondness for bright colors, and a myriad of inspirational fabrics to create unique works of art. From photographs and conversations, she interprets her clients’ stories, bringing them to life through an original art form that conveys emotion and creates lasting memories.
Creativity is in her DNA—her mother is an artist, her grandmother was a sculptor, her great-grandfather, Charles Dana Gibson, created the Gibson Girl in the 1890s, and her great-aunt, Nancy Lancaster, started Colefax & Fowler, the influential British decorating firm that codified the English Country House look.
From pillows to framed art, Sarah’s distinctive pieces capture people, pets, special rooms and places, invitations, family portraits, and houses in a singular, highly stylized way. She creates rooms that she can feel a part of, and her hope is that the viewer will also want to inhabit these spaces. To learn more about Sarah, visit her website at www.sarahwileyart.com
